Weekend success...

Star high school baseball player Alex Meyer signed a pair of index cards care of Greensburg (IN) High School. The 6'7" right handed pitcher is an Aflac All-American who struck out more than one out of every three batters he faced last season. Baseball America ranked Meyer as the number two prospect in attendance at Perfect Game's National Showcase in Cincinnati.

Also signing were a number of college football head coaches, including Texas head coach Mack Brown, Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden, Illinois head coach Ron Zook, Colorado State head coach Sonny Lubick, New Mexico State head coach Hal Mumme, Duke head coach Ted Roof, Central Michigan head coach Butch Jones, and Utah State head coach Brent Guy. All signed via email in less than a month.

A recap of the week thus far...

UAB hoops star Robert Vaden, a transfer from Indiana who joined Mike Davis with the Blazers, signed a pair of index cards care of the athletic department in 70 days. Vaden, who was Indiana's 2nd leading scorer as a sophomore, is leading the Blazers in scoring through two games this season, averaging more than 22 points while shooting better than 60% from three point range.

A trio of coaches - Florida State's Bobby Bowden, Southern Miss's Jeff Bower, and Tennessee's Phil Fulmer - signed 8x10 photos this week. Each of those requests were sent via email.

In addition, New Mexico head coach Rocky Long sent along a team media guide, signing his bio page inside the magazine. That request (for an 8x10 photo) was sent via email as well.

University of Georgia head football coach Mark Richt signed and personalized an 8x10 photo. That request was emailed to the UGA athletic department and took just 10 days.

Three Saturday successes....

A Purdue football success topped the day's activity, as QB Curtis Painter, WR Dorien Bryant, RB Kory Sheets, and TE Dustin Keller signed an 8x10 sent to them care of the Purdue athletic department. That request took just 11 days. Painter has thrown for nearly 2700 yards and 24 touchdowns this fall, and his favorite target has been Bryant, who has accumulated nearly 800 yards and 8 scores himself. Sheets is the Boilers' leading rusher with over 700 yards and 6 TDs on the campaign, while Keller has been dangerous himself, hauling in a half-dozen scores and 600 yards worth of passes from Painter.

Also signing was Washington head football coach Tyrone Willingham. That request was sent via email and took just 8 days. Willingham, who personalized the photo that UW provided, is one of the college game's most respected coaches and appears to have the Huskies on the up-swing in his third year on campus after a brief tour of duty at Notre Dame. This is Willingham's second stint in the PAC-10 after previously leading the Stanford Cardinal.

Rounding out the day was Utah State hoops star Jaycee Carroll. The Aggies' senior guard signed a pair of index cards care of the USU athletic department in 56 days. Carroll was a First Team All-WAC selection last season and has been named the Preseason Player of the Year heading into this season.
