Add two more!

Success numbers 19 and 20 were delivered to my mailbox this afternoon. Miami (Ohio) WR Ryne Robinson's was returned in 25 days, while USC QB Mark Sanchez sent his back in just 21 days. Both requests were sent via the player's athletic department. With the successes today, I'm now at a cost of just $5.00 per autograph received, and just a single returned request away from climbing over the 20% success mark.

Slowly but surely, another success!

The 18th success of the summer arrived in the mail this afternoon, so I'm now about 60% towards my goal of around 30-35 requests received. This one, from Iowa State RB Stevie Hicks, took 23 days. Like all of the others returned thus far, it was sent to his school rather than his home address. He is the second ISU player I've received a success from already. (The other was WR Todd Blythe.)

More success, x2!

I received my 16th and 17th successes of the year in the mail this afternoon. Iowa State WR Todd Blythe's request took 14 days, while Miami QB Kyle Wright's took 17 days. This is the first returned request from a Miami football player than I can ever remember. The school has notoriously ignored most every request I have ever sent in the past, the most notable exception being former Hurricane basketball star Darius Rice.

Also, it's worth noting that my cost per autograph received dropped well under $6 today. Again, I point out what a cheap hobby this can be.

Yet another success!

The 15th success of the summer arrived in my mailbox today, and ironically enough, it took exactly 15 days for Colorado RB Hugh Charles to return my request. I still have not received a request that I had sent to a player's home address.

Also today, I put requests to Michigan's Steve Breaston and Mike Hart back in the mailbox. Both were returned earlier this week because the home address I had originally sent them to was incorrect.

A trio of successes!

Three new autographs came in the mail today. First was Albert Young, the RB from Iowa; his request was returned in 16 days. Second was Boise State QB Jared Zabransky, whose request was returned in 14 days. And last but not least was NC State WR Darrell Blackman, received in 11 days. That is the second NCSU success I've had this summer. The other was RB Andre Brown, also received in 11 days.

Two more successes...and a couple re-sends!

The success total came to 11 today, as I received autographs from Louisville WR Mario Urrutia and Mississippi LB Patrick Willis. The former took just 10 days, while the latter took 13. Both players returned both index cards that I sent.

I also received a couple of returned requests from Michigan players Steve Breaston and Mike Hart. As with the other two that were returned due to an incorrect address, both were sent to the players' home address. That experiment appears to be failing. I had originally sent 11 requests to home addresses, four of which have now been returned because of incorrect addresses. None of the other seven have been successes as of today.

Another success!

I received my 9th success of the season in the mailbox today, this one from Robert Merrill, the RB from TCU. Unlike the previous 8 I had received, Merrill returned only one of the two index cards. No response for the exlucsion of the second was provided, though I am somewhat surprised to receive any response at all from TCU. Last summer, I attempted to collect Merrill's autograph and received a handwritten note from the TCU athletic department stating that they would not allow their athletes to sign autographs through the mail due to the problem of those autographs showing up on E-Bay. I'm not sure if this request slipped through the cracks or if the school has changed its policy.

Below is another look at the success scorecard, and I've included a new category today: price per success. It cost me about $100 to send out my 103 requests, so I'm dividing the number of successes into 100 to determine how much each autograph I've received cost me. Obviously this figure will continue to drop as I received new successes in the mail. I would love for it to fall below $4.

Four more successes!

Four new successes came in the mail Monday, along with a pair of requests returned because the USPS could not deliver them.

I received autographs from Northern Illinois RB Garrett Wolfe, Clemson WR Chansi Stuckey, NC State RB Andre Brown, and Oregon State QB Matt Moore. Stuckey's request took 12 days, Brown's and Wolfe's both 11 days, and Moore's just 10. All four requests were sent to the players via their team's athletic department.

I had sent requests to Texas RB Jamaal Charles and Purdue WR Dorien Bryant by way of their home addresses, as listed on their respective school's website. However, it appears both players have moved out of those locations, and a forwarding address was not provided for either. Therefore, I'm going to re-send these two requests on Tuesday, this time directing them to the athletic departments at those two schools.

Quick update...

No success stories from the mailbox Saturday, but I did get a letter from the University of Utah requesting me to sign a form before they'll return the Brian Johnson autographs. It basically asks to me to sign it agreeing I will not sale the items (on Ebay, for example), nor give them away to anyone else. It claims that once they receive that form, they will send the autographs my way. I'll keep you posted!

More Success!

I received the 3rd and 4th successes of the season in the mailbox today. QBs Drew Stanton of Michigan State and Paul Smith of Tulsa are the latest; both requests were sent via their team's athletic department. Stanton's request took 9 days, while Smith's took just 8.

First Successes!

I received a pair of successes in today's mailbox, UTEP QB Jordan Palmer (left) and Houston WR Vincent Marshall. Both were sent on July 6 and took 7 days to receive, and both requests were via the schools' athletic department.

I expect a good deal of additional successes over the next few days.

Day Four requests are in the box!

It comes two days later than planned, but the last of the 2006 college football autograph requests are in the mailbox. I'll have a complete list of which ones were included in today's mailout in a day or two.

The first requests were mailed out last Wednesday, so I'm not expecting any responses until this Wednesday at the earliest. It will probably be closer to the end of the week until I receive any replies, but when I do, I'll post them here!

Just placed day one's requests in the mailbox! I generally don't expect to begin to receive anything back for at least seven days, and it usually turns out to be more like eight to ten. More requests go in the box Thursday, Friday, and Saturday!
