Longhorn signs...

Texas men's basketball star Damion James signed a single index card care of the UT athletic department in about 3 months. The Longhorns' sophomore guard/forward averaged more than 13 points and 10 rebounds per game in helping lead the team to a 31-7 record.

Half-dozen in the box...

Minnesota baseball star Matt Nohelty signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of the UM athletic department in just under a week. The junior outfielder is hitting just a point under .400 on the 2008 season.

Also signing was former Notre Dame defensive end Trevor Laws, who sent back a pair of index cards and a questionnaire in just over a week. During his senior season, Laws was a Third Team All-American and Second Team All-Academic selection.

Former Georgia Southern star Jayson Foster signed a couple of index cards and completed a questionnaire in about 8 days. Foster, who was the nation's second leading rusher as a quarterback, won the 2007 Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in D-IAA.

Also signing was Georgia running back Kregg Lumpkin, who returned a pair of index cards and a questionnaire in just under a week. Battling injuries throughout his career, Lumpkin has rushed for 1300 yards in his career at UGA.

Iowa State quarterback Bret Meyer signed a pair of index cards care of the ISU athletic department in about 8 months. The junior completed 61% of his passes last fall for the Cyclones, throwing for nearly 2200 yards while also rushing for 300 more and accounting for a dozen scores.

Former Oklahoma State hoops star and current ESPN college basketball analyst Doug Gottlieb signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of the ESPN studio in just over a week. At one time, Gottlieb held every assist record at OSU and in the Big XII conference.

Missouri head football coach Gary Pinkel signed and personalized an 8x10 photo in about 5 months. That request was sent via email back in the fall.

Unloading the mailbox...

Former Valparaiso star player and current assistant coach Bryce Drew and his father, current Valpo head coach Homer Drew, each signed a 4x6 photo I sent care of the team's athletic department address. That success, which also included a couple of photos signed just by the younger Drew, took about one month.

Also signing was Texas baseball freshman sensation Cameron Rupp. The former Aflac All-American signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire in about three months. Rupp is leading the Longhorns with a .370 batting average so far this season.

Virginia defensive end Chris Long, projected as a top three pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by many sources, signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of the McCue Center on the campus of UVA in about two months.

Two photos...

The Sutton family - father Eddie and sons Sean and Scott - each signed an 8x10 photo I designed and sent to each of them care of their respective schools. In total, this project took about 10 weeks.

Also signing was East Carolina head football coach Skip Holtz, who sent a signed, personalized 8x10 via email in about 4 months.

Douglas signs...

Louisville wide receiver Harry Douglas signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire in about 4 months. The NFL prospect has been a First Team All-Big East performer multiple times and earned 2nd Team All-America honors in 2007. He is projected as a 2nd or 3rd round pick in this spring's NFL Draft.

Trio of successes....

Former Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire I sent in just 16 days. Flacco also included a couple of photos that he provided and hand-wrote a brief note. The former Blue Hen threw for more than 3300 yards and 18 touchdowns this fall and is projected as a 2nd or 3rd round NFL draft pick.

Also signing was high school baseball star Walker Kelly, who sent back a pair of signed index cards and a completed questionnaire care of Arlington Heights (TX) High School in about 4 months. The left-handed pitcher is an Aflac All-American.

Loyola Chicago head coach Jim Whitesell signed an 8x10 photo via email in about 3 months.
