A full mailbox...

Hawaii record-setting quarterback Colt Brennan signed an ESPN the Magazine and an 8x10 photo in less than two weeks. The Warriors' signal-caller broke countless school, conference, and NCAA records while at Hawaii but is projected to fall into the 3rd round or lower in this spring's NFL Draft. (You can see the photo he signed by checking out the message board.)

Also signing was former Florida State star and 1993 Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward, who sent back a pair of signed index cards and a completed questionnaire in less than a week care of Westburg (TX) Christian School where he is currently employed. Ward won numerous other gridiron awards while also starring on the basketball floor and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Miami Hurricanes baseball star Yonder Alonso signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of UM baseball in just 10 days. The junior first baseman is a Second Team Preseason All-American and is rated the #5 college baseball prospect in the country by Baseball America.

California ace Tyson Ross also signed a pair of index cards in just over two months. The junior from Oakland earned 1st Team All-Pac 10 honors last season after going 6-6 with a 2.49 ERA and striking out 120 in 115 innings of work.

Former NC State ace Andrew Brackman signed a pair of index cards in just over a month. A first round pick in last spring's MLB Draft by the New York Yankees, Brackman played both baseball and basketball at NCSU and underwent Tommy John surgery late last summer.

High school football star Jamie Harper, a Clemson signee, signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of Trinity (FL) Christian Academy in less than a week. Harper is rated the #1 fullback in the country and one of the top 120 players in the nation regardless of position.

High school hoops star Lance Goulbourne also signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of The Hun (NJ) School in less than a month. The Vanderbilt signee is rated as one of the top 100 basketball prospects in the class of 2009.

A couple of college hoops coaches, Duke's Mike Krzyzewski and McNeese State's Dave Simmons, signed 8x10 photos via email in less than two months.

Unloading the mailbox...

Vanderbilt baseball stars Ryan Flaherty, Pedro Alvarez, Dominic de la Osa, and Mike Minor all signed an 8x10 sent care of the Vandy baseball office in just 10 days. The former three players were the Commodores' leading hitters last season, all batting between .378 and .386. Minor, meanwhile, was 9-1 on the campaign with a 3.09 ERA.

Meanwhile, Arizona State slugger Petey Paramore signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of the ASU athletic department in 40 days. The junior catcher has been named First Team All-Pac 10 each of his first three seasons on campus for the Sun Devils.

Also signing was UC Irvine standout Ollie Linton, who sent back two signed index cards, a completed questionnaire, a signed schedule card, and a very nice thank-you note care of the Anteaters' athletic department in less than three weeks. The redshirt junior, who has earned Preseason All-America honors, helped lead UCI to Omaha last summer.

Ohio State quarterback Todd Boeckman also took time to sign a pair of index cards in just over a month. The Buckeyes' signal-caller led the team to their second straight national title game as he completed nearly 64% of his passes for almost 2400 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Southern Illinois basketball star Randal Falker also signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of the SIU athletic department in only 10 days. The senior forward is averaging more than 12 points and 7 rebounds per contest for the Salukis.

A number of top high school prospects also signed, including Clear Creek (TX) High School's Jarred Cosart, who sent back a pair of index cards, a questionnaire, a baseball card he included himself, and a very nice note care of the school in just two weeks. The hard-throwing righty is an Aflac All-American.

High school hoops star Brock Osweiler signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of Flathead (MT) High School in only 10 days. The 6'7" forward is headed to Gonzaga to play college basketball.

In addition, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and MLB Commissioner Bug Selig each signed 8x10 photos they provided in a little over two months, while Liberty head basketball coach Ritchie McKay signed a 5x7 care of email in about 50 days.

Trio of successes...

At long last, star Indiana freshman Eric Gordon signed and returned a pair of index cards care of the IU athletic department in two weeks. The first year sensation is leading the Big Ten with more than 21 points per game while shooting 40% from downtown.

Also signing was Drake sophomore guard Josh Young. That success, care of the Drake athletic department, took just under 3 weeks; Young signed a pair of cards, completed a questionnaire, and also included one of the nicest notes I've ever received. The Bulldogs' leading scorer, Young has led the team to a 22-2 start to the season with his superb 46.1% shooting from the outside.

Rounding out the week was star Arizona first baseman C.J. Ziegler, who signed a pair of index cards, completed a questionnaire, and included a nice note care of the UA athletic department in just over a month. In his first season at Arizona last spring, Ziegler hit .355 with 13 homeruns.

One on Saturday...

North Carolina star outfielder Tim Fedroff signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of the UNC athletic department in just under a month. A Freshman All-American and All-ACC selection a year ago, Fedroff hit .344 for the season and .346 in Omaha, earning him a spot on the All-CWS squad.

The week wrap-up...

Vanderbilt hoops stars A.J. Ogilvy and Shan Foster signed a combo 8x10 and a combo 5x7 photo care of the Vandy athletic department in just under a month. Just a freshman, Ogilvy - a native of Australia - is averaging more than 17 points per game while also grabbing nearly 7 rebounds per contest. Foster, a senior, is leading the team with 19 points per game and is connecting on almost 46% of his three-point shots.

Shan Foster also signed an index card sent to him care of Vanderbilt. The senior from Kenner, LA was a member of the 2007 USA Pan American Games team and is a former SEC All-Freshman Team and All-SEC First Team member. For his career, Foster is averaging nearly 15 points per game while shooting better than 41% from downtown.

UT-Martin's Lester Hudson signed a pair of index cards in just a dozen days care of the Skyhawks' athletic department. The nation's third leading scorer, Hudson is averaging over 26 points per game while also grabbing 8 boards per contest.

BYU's Trent Plaisted also signed a pair of index cards and returned a questionnare care of the Cougars' athletic department in only 12 days. The junior out of San Antonio is scoring nearly 16 points per contest for the Mountain West-leading squad, who is 18-5 on the campaign.

Also signing was Rider University star Jason Thompson, who sent back a pair of index cards and a questionnaire in just 11 days care of the athletic department. The senior out of New Jersey is averaging a team-leading 20 points and 12 rebounds per game for the 17-6 Broncs.

High school baseball standout Andy Burns signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of Rocky Mountain (CO) High School in only a dozen days. The country's 38th best prospect according to Baseball America, Burns has signed to play for Kentucky.

Current college baseball star Mike McKenna of Florida Atlantic signed a pair of index cards and returned a questionnaire care of the Owls' athletic department in just under a month. A senior, McKenna is the Sun Belt's leading returning hitter after batting .413 for the Owls last spring.

A number of coaches also signed this week, including Ohio State's Jim Tressel. Also signing were college hoops coaches Jim Larranaga (George Mason), Jim Boylen (Utah), Murry Bartow (East Tennessee State), Jeff Neubauer (Eastern Kentucky).

Two on Saturday...

Notre Dame big man Luke Harangody signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire in 57 days care of the athletic department. The sophomore has nearly doubled his point output this year and is now averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds per contest.

Also signing was Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey, who signed an 8x10 care of the university via email in about a month.

Recapping the week...

Dallas Mavericks' star Dirk Nowitzki headlined the week, returning a signed jersey in less than a month care of the team address. The 7-foot native of Germany is a seven-time NBA All-Star selection and was the first ever European-born player to receive the NBA MVP award. One of the NBA's best signers, Dirk has averaged at least 21 points per game every season since the 2000-2001 campaign.



Meanwhile, former Penn State running back Larry Johnson signed a pair of index cards in just over two weeks. A former first round draft pick, Johnson ran for over 2000 yards in 2002 at PSU and set the NCAA record for yards per carry over the course of a season. That same season, he broke the school's record for rushing yards in a game three separate times.

A number of college baseball players also signed, including Vanderbilt's Dominic de la Osa, who sent back a pair of signed index cards care of the athletic department in just three weeks. De la Osa, a senior from Miami, hit .378 last season with a team-high 20 homeruns.

Also signing was former Rutgers star Todd Frazier, a former Little League World Series champion and 2007 Big East Player of the Year. Frazier signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire in less than two weeks.

Tulane's Shooter Hunt signed a single index card care of the athletic department in 17 days. Hunt, a junior transfer from Virginia, is projected by some to be a 1st round draft pick this summer after compiling a 2.62 ERA and 6-6 record for the Green Wave last spring.

Yale's Ryan Lavarnway also signed a pair of index cards, completed a questionnaire, and included a nice note care of the athletic department in 17 days. A Second Team All-American a season ago, Lavarnway led the NCAA in batting average last year, improving his average by nearly 200 points from the season before.

New Orleans' Johnny Giavotella also signed a pair of index cards and completed a questionnaire care of the UNO athletic department in just 21 days. Giavotella led the Privateers to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament title and was named the event's Most Outstanding Player while also earning Third Team All-America honors.

Rounding out the college baseball signers was California's David Cooper. The First Team All-Pac 10 selection from a season ago led the Bears with a .382 average at the plate in 2007 while also slamming a dozen homers.

Turning to college hoops, Niagara's Charron Fisher signed a pair of index cards care of the athletic department in just six days. Fisher is the country's second-leading scorer, averaging nearly 27 points per game while also grabbing 9 rebounds per contest.

A pair of coaches also signed care of email. Wisconsin head football coach Bret Bielema sent a signed 8x10 photo, while South Florida head basketball coach Stan Heath sent a smaller photo back signed.
